Summary:
The concept of Earth Guardian Prince Endymion is not, altogether, a new
one. I’m sure that countless fanfiction authors (myself included) have had thoughts
along these lines when writing about the Anime Sailor Moon. However, this story
is unique in the sense that we have enhanced it, if you like, to fit in with Pretty
Guardian Sailor Moon.
‘Where did you get the idea?’ As I said before,
the basic idea had been in my mind for sometime, but I had never really had the
motivation to action it as it would mean placing the Anime Shitennou in a similar
situation to that of the Action Series counterparts and, in all, this wouldn’t
work owing to their character differences and the fact that Toei pretty much did
away with the storyline concerning Endymion’s guardians all together. Having said
that my Anime fanfics, ‘Dark Destiny’ and ‘The Guardians’ come as close as you
can get to a Anime Shitennou/Endymion reunion and, if you have read either of
them you will know, that this does not come without problems.
We actually
started work on the story back in August 2004, after Act 44 of Pretty Guardian
aired. Being Shitennou fans, needless to say, we were disappointed that they killed
Zoisite off and subsequently killed the remaining kings (though Act 44 rocked
for the simple reason that Yoshito Endo-sama’s acting was amazing, possibly his
best act ever!). Once the final Act aired, we both feel that it was a very disappointing
end to the main season.
The Special Act was MUCH better. The guys got
a fair role, which is also a big part of how EGPE came about. Even Shibby was
overlooked to some extent in favour of the female actresses, which, at risk of
this turning into a rant, we both felt was very unfair as all the guys are very
talented actors and deserved so much more recognition than they got from the Pretty
Guardian Series.
Of course, for the plot to work, we needed to create
lives for each Shitennou outside of their true selves. Some was taken direct from
the series (i.e. Nephrite’s job in Crown and Zoisite’s love of the piano), but
most of the background was completely made up by us both to fit the characters.
Mamoru’s background remains pretty much the same, he is still engaged
to Hina and his parents are still dead, etc, though his personality has been somewhat
enhanced due to lack of character development in PGSM. Another thing that bugged
us about Mamoru in PGSM was his lack of leadership skills. Had he listened to
Zoisite in the first place and taken a little more control of the situation with
Beryl then the Shitennou might have been saved. In EGPE he develops these leadership
skills, especially in later Acts when it is revealed that he, not Seiichi, is
the true Prince.
We were both amazed at EGPE's popularity, but it just goes to show that there
are more Endymion and Shitennou fans out there than we thought! Keep visiting,
minna, and both of us thank you all for your support of EGPE.
